For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. — Colossians 1:16
In his book, Sacred Days, Thomas Steagald tells the story of when his friend’s child asked the inevitable question, “Where did I come from?” Rather than delve into the biology of humans, Steagald’s friend answered spiritually: “In the heart of God, honey. Before we knew you, you were in the heart of God. And we are so glad God gave you to us.”
It was an inspired and loving and perfect lesson for the moment.
We, too, can learn from that parent’s teaching moment. When we face a situation that requires us to trust God, we can remember that we came from God’s heart. All creation came from God, but we came from God’s heart.
